Town justices are elected to four-year terms. The Town of Murray is now reduced to one active justice. The town of Murray holds court EVERY second AND fourth Wednesday of each month at 5:00 PM. The jurisdiction for the Town of Murray includes the Village of Holley and the hamlets of Brockville, Fancher, Hindsburg and Hulberton. The court is included in the CAP (Centralized Arraignment Part) in which arraignments take place at the Orleans County Jail on 26 Platt Street in Albion, NY 14411. The CAP arraignments take place twice daily at 8:30 am and 7:30 PM, 365 days a year. CAP does arraignments for all 10 towns, all four villages and the 34 hamlets across Orleans County.
Town courts are local courts with jurisdiction over criminal procedure law, environmental conservation law, local law, marriage ceremonies, penal law, vehicle and traffic law and many more arising within their borders. They have jurisdiction over civil matters and small claims up to $3000.
The court does have a mail drop box next to the court office door to pay fines. You will then be mailed a receipt. This payment method will be available (excluding holidays) Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 9:00 AM to 4 PM and Saturdays from 9-12. Please enter the front entrance to the town of Murray building. Go down the hall to the last door on the right labeled Town Justice to place your payment. The court only accepts money orders and cash in the drop box. In May 2025 the courts will also accept payments by credit card, both online and in person, and will be done through ALLPAID. Look for a link to ALLPAID attached to this website. There will be an additional fee from ALLPAID to use this service. You can also pay by ALL THREE means in person on Monday’s and Thursdays between 12PM and 3PM, OR during court hours, in which the court clerk will be present.
